About Us

For over 30 years, Paul Bote has been captivated by Africa’s pulse. What began as a journey of exploration soon became a profound connection—with the continent’s vibrant cultures, the resilience and warmth of its people, and above all, the art that bursts with life.

When Paul first arrived in Kenya in 2009, what was meant to be a short visit quickly became a chapter that changed everything. He spent eight transformative years immersed in local life, captivated by the energy of the people and the richness of their traditions. As an artist himself, Paul was especially moved by the ingenuity of Kenyan artisans—craftspeople who turn discarded metal and everyday materials into powerful, evocative sculptures. Each piece told a story. Each piece was a voice.

With time, a vision began to take shape: to share this raw, authentic African creativity with the world. Not simply as beautiful artwork, but as a platform for empowerment—an opportunity for these gifted artisans to be seen, appreciated, and celebrated on a global stage.

After 15 years of connection, reflection, and careful planning, Paul founded Mara Raha African Sculptures in Southern Spain—a land known for its own rich artistic heritage and deep cultural appreciation. The gallery is more than a showcase; it is a bridge between Africa and Europe, between tradition and modern appreciation.

Mara Raha (Swahili for endless joy) is a tribute to the stories, talent, and soul behind every sculpture. Each curated piece is a symbol of resilience, creativity, and community. Our mission goes beyond art—it’s about creating meaningful exchange, building a global family, and honoring the voices of African artists through every creation.

Welcome to Mara Raha—where Africa’s spirit takes form, and the world listens.
