Welcome to MaraRaha
East African Arts and Sculptures
For nearly 30 years, our founder Peter Paul Bote explored the heart of Africa—drawn by its people, culture, and above all, its art. What began as travel turned into a deep connection, especially during his eight years in Kenya, where he discovered the incredible talent of local artisans turning scrap into soul-stirring sculpture. Mara Raha was born from this passion—a gallery in Southern Spain dedicated to showcasing the raw beauty and storytelling power of African sculpture.

Sculptures
Where creativity and culture meet
At Mara Raha, every sculpture begins not with a mold, but with a mission—to transform the forgotten into something unforgettable. Crafted by skilled African artisans, each piece is shaped from reclaimed metal, salvaged from scrapyards and industrial waste. What was once discarded becomes the foundation for a new story. The creation process is both deliberate and deeply intuitive. It starts with vision. Our artists first sketch the animal’s form—capturing not just anatomy, but attitude. This framing stage is where character is born, outlining the curve of a giraffe’s neck, the alert stance of a lion, or the quiet dignity of an elephant. Then comes the craft. Welding is where the raw becomes refined. Metal is cut, curved, and joined by hand—layer by layer—until the sculpture stands on its own, full of life and spirit. No template is followed; every piece is a one-of-a-kind expression shaped by the artisan’s eye, hand, and experience. Because each scrap of metal has its own shape and story, no two sculptures are ever alike. Their textures, markings, and subtle imperfections are what make them real. They carry the personality of the animal they depict and the soul of the person who created them. These works are more than objects. They’re statements—on sustainability, on culture, and on the power of turning the ordinary into something deeply meaningful. Whether placed in a garden, gallery, or living room, a Mara Raha sculpture invites conversation, connection, and a renewed appreciation for the art of reinvention.
